Swedish House of Finance Marks 15 Years of Research and Impact
Jul. 02, 2026
This summer, the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) marks its 15th anniversary. Since its founding in 2011, SHoF has grown into Sweden’s national center for financial research, providing an independent platform that connects academia, policymakers, practitioners, and the broader public
SHoF was established in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, when the need for stronger financial research and closer collaboration between researchers and decision-makers had become increasingly clear. Its mission was to strengthen financial research in Sweden while creating a forum where evidence-based insights could inform policy, regulation, and industry practice.
Over the past 15 years, the global financial landscape has evolved significantly. The world has experienced the recovery from the financial crisis, a global pandemic, rising geopolitical uncertainty, and growing attention to climate change and the role of finance in supporting the green transition. Throughout these developments, SHoF has contributed rigorous, independent research to discussions shaping financial markets, public policy, and regulation.
Today, SHoF hosts leading international researchers in finance, including Nobel laureates, and serves as a meeting place for research, dialogue, and collaboration. By bringing together academic excellence and practical perspectives, SHoF continues to foster informed conversations on the financial issues that matter most to society.
The anniversary also marks an important leadership transition. After serving as Director of the Swedish House of Finance, Bo Becker is handing over the role to Paolo Sodini (SHoF/SSE), Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and a leading scholar in household finance.
As SHoF celebrates this milestone, the institution extends its gratitude to Becker for his leadership, academic judgment, and commitment to independent research. His contributions have helped shape SHoF into the institution it is today, and he will continue to play an important role in its future.
SHoF also thanks its researchers, partners, policymakers, practitioners, students, and the broader SHoF community for their support and engagement over the past 15 years. Together, they have helped build an institution dedicated to advancing financial research and strengthening the dialogue between research and practice.
As SHoF looks ahead, its mission remains unchanged: to promote world-class financial research and ensure that rigorous evidence continues to inform better decisions for society.
