Last autumn, a government investigation proposed that Sweden should reintroduce a wealth register concerning the population's assets and debts, similar to the registers present in other Nordic countries. Roine Vestman, an Associate Professor at Stockholm University and a visiting researcher at the Swedish House of Finance, stated in an Ekonomiekot Extra interview that a new wealth register would be valuable for Sweden. He states that a wealth register would offer a more solid foundation for Swedish economic policy, monetary policy, and enables the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority as well as researchers to evaluate various policy measures. This includes measures aimed at achieving financial stability.
