Seminar with, among others, the EU Commission and the Swedish Armed Forces. We have had a growing discussion in Sweden on whether foreign direct investments in strategically important sectors can be associated with risks. The debate has above all centered around investments in infrastructure. It has also concerned sensitive technology that can be transferred to firms in other countries. The rapidly growing Chinese direct investments have been in focus for the debate.
A similar debate has been going on within the EU Commission. A proposed framework for screening and dealing with foreign direct investments has been published by the Commission.
At the meeting the following topics will be discussed:
- How will the EU proposal work in practice?
- Is there a need to increase the screening of foreign direct investments in Sweden?
- Is the lack of reciprocity when it comes to access to the Chinese markets for Swedish firms a problem?
The seminar is a joint venture between the European Commission Representation in Sweden, the Swedish House of Finance and SNS. It is a seminar in the “Finanspanelen” seminar series.
Finanspanelen is a forum for the financial sector and it is arranged by by SNS and the Swedish House of Finance.
